Just the beginning...

I haven't actually started traveling yet, but I already feel as though things are going to work out well. I've had nothing but bad luck trying to find a job in the UK for the last 10 months. I got a job at a hiking store in October, but the manager was a total creep, so I quit after 2 days. Then I got another job at a hiking store in December, but the managers there really disliked me, so I had to quit that one too. At this point, I had realised that retail just wasn't for me. So I got another job working for a small company that sold lingerie to larger companies such as Topshop. That was going fine, right up until they emailed me about 3 weeks in to say that they had no more work for me.

Before I lost this job, I had planned on saving for Canada, and then leaving in October. But when I got the bad news, I couldn't bear the thought of searching for a job in London and then a few months down the line searching for a job in Canada as well. So I started the job search online, feeling very skeptical. I found a great website called cooljobscanada, where I found a job that looked like a dream. A summer working at a developed campground in the Canadian Rockies. I applied immediately, and I must say, it's probably my best job application I've ever done. Two weeks later, after more application forms, references and a Skype interview, I landed the job! Things just always seem to work out for me when dealing with North America.

I really hope to buy a car while I'm out there, only problem is that I don't have any money. Without a car I won't be able to do anything or go anywhere. I would essentially be trapped in the mountains till October.

My campground job will end in October, so I have no idea where I'll go from there. Ideally I'll find work on the slopes. Failing that, I could try to find a more permanent job in Calgary. I'm not too worried, I'm sure I'll work something out. I'm also secretly hoping I'll meet someone who will think I'm perfect for a job working at a national park!

Next update will be in Canada! And I'm going to try to keep the posts frequent, and definitely a lot more interesting than this one!
